Backpack Buddies Program (Ongoing)

Morton Church is continuing our partnership with Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Sandy Cross United Methodist Church, and Cornerstone Baptist Church to help children from Coopers Elementary School who are at risk for hunger.  Each Friday participating children receive non-perishable, easily opened and prepared foods to last them through the weekend.

For each day they receive:

  • 3 juice boxes/bottles
  • 1 breakfast item
  • 2 lunch/dinner items
  • 2 snack items

Suggested items:

All food items must be in unbreakable (not glass), easy to open containers.

  • canned meats with pop-tops (Chef Boyardee or similar)
  • canned vegetables and soups with pop-tops
  • microwaveable meals, such as:  Easy Mac, Oodles of Noodles, and Spaghettios
  • individual-sized cereal, grits, oatmeal, breakfast bars, Pop-Tarts
  • healthy snacks, such as: granola bars, raisins, Goldfish, cheese & crackers, popcorn, pudding cups, animal crackers, trail mix, fruit cups, applesauce, fruit snacks, juice boxes, cookie packs
  • family-sized boxes of Macaroni & Cheese
  • family-sized cans of beef stew or meat/meals

Items can be brought to church at any time. Financial contributions are also helpful, and team members then purchase the needed items.  You can send gifts to the church at 6605 West Mount Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27803, and indicate that they are for the Backpack Buddies program.  Thank you for your help!
